ANDALUCES and Andalucas are traditionally proud of their autonomous community, and the long weekend of 28 February was used to celebrate it – as happens annually.
With many starting early on the night of 27th, and continuning the communal fun in bars and private settings until Sunday, it was a weekend of “burning the candle at both ends” . Especially as the town hall events tended to start their main events at 2am! This included the huge fancy dress party in Órgiva’s municipal ‘carpa’, which saw its fair share of tutus, drag, ghosts, and people dressed as bananas!
Some residents, not keen on the party element, simply engaged in the civilised ‘jabas’ (runner beans) and ‘jamon’ events on Friday 28, kindly provided by their local town halls. This was generally washed down by some locally-produced wine, such as variants from the Bodego Cuatro Vientos located in Murtas (in the case of Cáñar). Delicious!
One thing about Spain – there is always a party!
