IN PICS: The Darling Buds of May in Spain’s Granada

AFTER the abundant spring rainfall, La Alpujarra and surrounding rural Granada is awash with splashes of colour from all manner of beautiful blooms. However, seeing flowers is one thing, while naming them is quite another. OK, so most of us can identify poppies (‘amapolas’) and gorse isn’t too hard… but then it can be a case of “those pink things I saw earlier” or “purple ones hanging over a wall”.

To help identify some of the flora in La Alpujarra, including plants that have taken up resident but aren’t traditional, members of social networks were invited to submit their favourite flower pics – with names.

Here is the resulting image gallery of the “darling buds of May”.
