SOUTH of Granada paid a visit to ‘Orgullo en el Valle’ (Pride in the Valley), a colourful, friendly and well-organised event in Melegis, Lecrin Valley. Taking place on Saturday 8 June, in the municipal sports hall, it promised to be “party of the year” in the village. We suspect that it lived up to this moniker, during its later stages!
Catering not only for the LGBTQ+ community, but for people of all ages and persuasions – from the young to the elderly – the event was well-attended and a good vibe prevailed. The message from the promoters was that “everybody should be proud” – regardless of their orientation.
Attended by many people dressed in frivolous attire, the party featured food stalls, drag queens, make-up corner, high heel race, majorettes, and DJ shows.
The question is: why aren’t more of these fabulous events taking place in the region?
