The origins of Restaurant Jaima Los Llanos – in Lanjarón
The origins of today’s Restaurante Jaima Los Llanos date back 30 years, to the Alpujarran spa town of Lanjarón. During this era, the current family elder, Ubeida, was invited to mount an artisan crafts tent outside a restaurant belonging to an entrepreneur named Paco, and his wife, Claire. This was a promotional and symbolic project for the team. The tent sold traditional Muslim handcrafts.
Eventually, the project ended as the artisan tent no longer had a supply of water and electricity, so it was time for participants to follow different paths.
How today’s Jaima Los Llanos Restaurant was born
Ten years later, Ubeida and the amily reached a new agreement with Paco: to develop a project that would create a place of rest, commerce and cultural exchange, with a special focus on Halal food.
Ubeida has known the Alpujarra for over 40 years. He also has 20 years’ experience in food retail and spent 15 years running a family restaurant in central Madrid. The entire team has experience in the service and crafts sectors. These were the perfect skills to focus on the key areas of ambience, cuisine, and customer care.
They decided to open Jaima Los Llanos restaurant, which is conveniently located near Soportújar, en route to the Alpujarra Alta and its popular white villages, such as Pampaneira, Bubion, and Capileira. The venue benefits from ample parking and is easy to find.
“We chose the location, but the location also chose us,” says Ubeida.
Restaurante Jaima Los Llanos certainly occupies a beautiful spot – with its terrace enjoying panoramic views across the Lújar mountain. With Órgiva at its foot, the mountain lies between La Alpujarra and Costa Tropical, providing an inspirational sight for diners.

A renovation project reaped rewards for Jaima Los Llanos
Today’s venue is a space reflecting tranquillity and ambience. The renovation of the previous Los Llanos restaurant building was no easy feat: the venue was in “dilapidated” state when the team took it over. However, like most ‘obras’ – when finished, the hard work justifies the attractive result!
The venue’s current layout was designed by Paco and features a large indoor ‘comedor’, a spacious bar area serving refreshments, an attractive outside terrace, chill-out zones, a souvenir shop, and a separate shop (upstairs) selling Muslim goods, including clothing.
Says Ubeida: “The idea of combining food and crafts is not new; it is the concept of a ‘caravanserai’, a place of rest, commerce, food, etc.” It certainly sits together well at Jaima Los Llanos.
International cuisine and community projects
As Ubeida points out, the Muslim community offers great support to the venue – as do the neighbours and residents of different nationalities, who socialise in this friendly and accommodating space.
Ubeida hopes to benefit the community with tree-planting initiatives. Jaima Los Llanos is planning to form a foundation to meet this objective.
Says Ubeida: “We are working to revive the cultural and artistic heritage of this region. We’re especially interested in ecological sustainability and good practices, as well as the role of nomadic communities, with workshops.”
“Meanwhile, our focus is providing our customers with a top culinary experience. This is reflected in the great reviews we are receiving about our dishes, presentation and levels of customer service here at Jaima Los Llanos”.

The restaurant is open Thursday to Sunday from 10-18hrs.
