Jo Chipchase previews the second instalment of the successful Planeta Bass music festival – at Los Bermajales, Granada, 18-20 September, 2026
FOR THOSE who love bass music, Granada is renowned for its thriving scene. Home-grown and organic, the sound system “family” provides a welcome antidote to commercial events with VIP barriers and pouting influencers waving smartphones. With the music and community speaking for themselves, Planeta Bass celebrates the best of the genre. The event is now in its ts second year, following a successful first run last September. The three-day festival promises everything from reggae and dub, to jungle, and drum and bass – with Kelvin 373 and Dub Elements headlining.
Planeta Bass takes place at Camping Los Bermejales, Arenas del Rey, Granada, on September 18-20, 2026 (Friday 18 and Saturday 19 are the main event, with an additional “poolside day” on Sunday 20, from 12-18hrs). The Camping provides a beautiful setting, with full amenities and catering for every guest’s needs.
The event promises good vibes, professional sound systems, and a weekend of hand-picked DJs, bringing quality bass music to rural Granada.
Planeta Bass also has a launch party taking place at El Jardin, Órgiva, on Saturday 1 August from 18hrs to 01hrs.
Kelvin 373 and Dub Elements headline
Headlining this year’s Planeta Bass festival are Kelvin 373, a respected figure in contemporary jungle and drum and bass, and Dub Elements.
Kelvin 373 is part of the Born on Road crew, from Bristol. A co-founder of the Born on Road collective, Kelvin 373 emerged from the UK’s free party scene, before establishing himself as an internationally recognised DJ, producer, and promoter. Over the past decade, Born On Road has become a big name on the scene, playing widely at festivals and drum and bass events. Another co-founder, Aries, also has a high profile.
Dub Elements, aka Antonio Cano (AC 45) and José Luis Vázquez (The Stunt Man), is a duo hailing from Seville. Formed in 2009, Dub Elements has released tracks on top-tier international labels, including Viper, Eatbrain, Hospital, and their own DEM Recordings. They have performed at events such as Tomorrowland and Dreambeach. Their work has received multiple awards.
Bukkha joins the line-up
Also appearing is Bukkha, who is regarded as one of Spain’s leading dub producers. He has previously lit up Granada with his tunes.
Celebrated in the dubstep, reggae, and sound-system bass scenes, Bukka is originally from Lafayette, Louisiana, USA. He moved to Spain, where he currently lives and works. He is regarded for blending heavy sub-bass with classic dub and steppas roots. Based in Valladolid, he has built an international reputation through his own releases on respected labels.
Hiw own two labels are BUKKHA, focusing on roots, dub, and steppas; and UNFOLD – an open-genre electronic music platform. Bukkha’s discography features acclaimed EPs and tracks on notable labels. He has worked with many reggae and bass scene heavyweights.
Tennor Mario makes an appearance
Better known by his stage name, Tenor Mario, Mario García has become one of Spain’s most respected figures in roots reggae. Before establishing an international reputation in the genre, he worked on the soundtrack for cult Spanish TV series, Malviviendo. He later founded a recording studio in El Coronil (Seville), helped to develop London’s Candem Records, and has toured internationally, including in Mexico.
Today, Tenor Mario is recognised for his authentic analogue productions and collaborations with reggae artists from across Europe and Jamaica. Remaining outside the mainstream, he has a loyal, international following and is regarded as of the leading names in Spanish roots reggae.
Planeta Bass: a different type of music festival
Do festivals make you think of mud-strewn landscapes and long-drop loos? Not at Planeta Bass. This event benefits from a privileged setting. Camping los Bermejales is located beside a large and beautiful ‘pantano’ (reservoir) in rural Granada – ‘Embalse de los Bermejales’. The vast campsite offers a swimming pool, bar/restaurant, facilities blocks, shaded areas, and and other amenities. These home comforts do not go amiss (especially for the first-generation ravers in their 50s!).
Planeta Bass combines underground music culture and a vibe devloved from the free party scene with reasonable prices and civility. What’s not to like?
Building on last year’s success
The inaugural edition of Planeta Bass, in 2025, demonstrated the support for quality bass music in Andalucía. The event is run by professional “sound boys” and attended by loyal supporters of the genres – including people of all ages, and families. It is the brainchild of DEZ-R, a drum and bass DJ hailing from La Alpujarra.
Some guests travel from across Spain, the UK, and other European countries to enjoy Planeta Bass.
One prominent sound system, with a huge following, is Órgiva-based Dub Valle Hi-Fi. This crew has spent more than two decades promoting reggae and dub culture across the Granada area. Founded by Phil Vega, and run alongside Daniel Dobson, the sound system is a familiar presence at regional events, drawing a loyal crowd. It has a crystal-clear sound system with “hog scops”… impressive even to the less-educated ear!
